Near the Salar of Antofalla in the Argentinian Puna, Catamarca province, Argentina. Located in the region of the Cordillera de los Andes, in the northwest of Argentina, the Puna is a very enigmatic and surprusing depopulated region. Between 3500 and 4500 meters above see level, it represents the most virgin zone of the northwest of Argentina. The Argentine puna is characterized by a volcanic morpholgy with numerous cones of more than 6000 m of height, with depressions that conform river basins closed with lagoons and salines. Its climate is rigorous, cold and dry, with minimun temperatures below 0º C , a daily thermal amplitude that can reach 30º C and anual precipitations below 200 mm.
